I’m not asking for a seat at the table, but creating a table accessible for everyone. Through my work with Senator Todd Pillion and US Congressman Ben Cline, I’m advocating for laws to be set in place that provide gluten free foods and cross contamination safety training in all public schools across Virginia. This means more than bare minimum foods, but nutritious, complete meals that give children the nutrients they need to thrive academically and socially.
33 million people in the United States live with food allergies, with every 1 in 100 people living with Celiac Disease. Safe food requires more than just good intentions, because these food allergies sre so severe and life threatening.
My impact has included 50+ school visits in k-12 schools throughout Virginia presenting my invisABILITY curriculum in partnership with Global Game Changers. In my photography and podcast campaign, Now You See Me, I highlight individuals with disabilities and diseases to allow them to share their stories and feel more seen. In addition to my volunteer work with disability serving organizations, created the Buddy Bunch Club—SWVA’s first club for individuals with disabilities to build community and gain necessary skills to thrive socially and academically.
I was diagnosed with celiac disease at 17.
Before that, I became partially deaf at 6 and hid my hearing aid after being bullied. I know what it feels like to be invisible. Now, I'm turning that experience into action so no one has to choose between participating and protecting their health.
